My Approach

About me

My name is Charlie Hindmoor and I live and work in the UK, I am currently based just outside of Carlisle and work both locally and further afield, I have been doing both photography and videography professionally for several years now and have built up and extensive portfolio of work which I’m always looking to add to with new people and brands.

As is the case with many, photography started out as a hobby for me and grew in a business fuelled by my desire to make better and better images as well as videos. Whilst doing this with both digital and analogue cameras I have grown to appreciate the beauty found within the small imperfections that make something standout.

Photographic The Creative Process

Over the Years I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of people in every industry from highly experienced leather workers to artisanal Cheesemakers, when working with people like this I like to bring one or two small and quiet professional cameras with me so that I can move freely around my subjects in an unobtrusive manner causing as little disruption to the creative process as possible, all the while capturing the important stages of creating your product.

In my opinion the best photos are where it was like the photographer was never there, allowing your audience to focus on you and your work or product. To that end I avoid using any intrusive photographic techniques such as using large, loud cameras, flash guns or elaborate lighting setups, instead I like to utilise ambient and natural light where possible.

Representing You

Using digital and/or analogue photography and videography techniques, I want to help small businesses represent the unique beauty of their amazing work to a wider audience, understanding that this has to be affordable and simple.

If you want to talk about how I can help you to represent your work, not with imperfect photography, but with high quality images and videos of the unique things that make your work beautiful, desirable and unique, please contact me. These conversations with artisan makers and artists are what drive my work, as my portfolio shows.

Why Analogue

Some time a go I started using various classic 35mm and medium format film cameras when creating images for my personal use, the resulting photographs had such attractive qualities and characteristics to them that I thought I’d start using this medium within my body of professional work, since then I have done several shoots on film and used analogue cameras in addition to my digital in order to capture a range of images.

I found that when making images using film I was much more connected to the process, much like the craftsman and artisans that chose traditional hands on methods. I also saw a lot of minor imperfections in the images like light leaks, more grain and areas of damage to the negatives, I felt that in some cases these minor imperfections mirrored those found within the products of the artisan and creative I work with.

As result of this I now offer this as and option instead of, or in addition to me shooting on a modelling digital mirrorless camera.
